Pastor Jailed For Contempt

The Ho High Court has sent a strong signal to persons who have the penchant for flouting court orders that they are not above the law.
In one of such instances, the Leader and General Overseer of the Glory Redeemed Ministry International, Samuel Addae, has been sentenced to 14 days imprisonment with hard labour for contempt of court.
Pastor Addae, who was convicted and sentenced yesterday, February 10, 2014 by the court, has his church at Taviefe-Avenya, a few minutes’ drive from Ho.
According to the facts as presented in the court presided over by His Lordship Charles Agbovor, Pastor Addae was said to have violated a court order restraining him and his members from using a disputed premises.
The said location was in contention between his church and another church, the Glory Renewal Ministry at the same area.
The presiding High Court judge, in handing the sentence, stressed that the court was setting an example to all those who disobeyed such injunctions. He was hopeful that many would learn and treat court orders sacred.

Man And Fiancée In Court Over Wee

Afademgbo Segbedzi and his fiancée, Celestine Kudzordzi
Twenty-eight-year-old Kofi Segbedzi and his fiancée, Celestine Kudzordzi, 21, on Monday, February 10, 2014 opened their defence at a Circuit Court in Ho over possession of Indian hemp.
The two, who claimed to have been dating for about four years before their arrest, have been remanded into prison custody and would reappear on February 19, 2014.
Narrating the incident to the court presided over by Mariama Sammo, the Prosecuting Officer, ASP Samuel Aboagye, said Celestine was first arrested on June 23, while Segbedzi was arrested later, when the Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the Ghana Police Service in the region went on an anti-narcotics operation at Anlo-Afiadenyigba.
In the course of their operations, the police had intelligence on Segbedzi’s ‘wee’ peddling operations and decided to follow up on it.
When the team got to Segbedzi’s house, they found the fiancée in possession of Indian hemp which she tried to conceal in a cloth under a bed in the room.
When she was interrogated, she mentioned the name of her fiancé, Segbedzi, as the owner of the ‘wee’.
He was also arrested on February 26, 2014 at Aflao in possession of an alleged stolen motorbike.
When he was interrogated, Segbedzi claimed ownership of the substance and mentioned one Budu of Afiadenyigba as the supplier. He, however, refused to give the location of the supposed supplier.
In her caution statement, Celestine admitted selling ‘wee’ to clients in her fiancé’s absence.
However, when she was arraigned before court, Celestine denied any knowledge of the substance.

Man Loses Eye To Police Brutality

Evangelist Simon Deffour
A month after the Ghana Police Service interdicted 10 police officers, with 13 others facing Service Inquiry for misconducting themselves, DAILY GUIDE has uncovered another police brutality which led to the damage of the eye of one Simon Deffour.
The victim, Simon Deffour, 39, cannot discharge his responsibilities as the evangelist
of the Theocracy Seven Day Church at Aflao as a result of the attack by the police.
He has poor blood circulation and his nervous system is gradually deteriorating.
Mr Deffour is currently pleading with philanthropists and other benevolent organizations to help him undergo surgery to save his life.
Deffour was brutalized and unlawfully detained by detective Buabeng and Sgt Vincent Agbenoo on July 14, 2003 at Aflao in the Ketu South District of the Volta Region.
Since then, all attempts by the victim to get the main perpetrators and the Ghana Police Service to address the matter had proved futile.
As a result, the victim reported the case to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) at Denu after three years of frustration.
To date, the Ghana Police Service has failed to pay for the victim’s medical cost.
Recommendations by CHRAJ to the Director General of the Police Intelligence and Professional Standards (PIPS) in August 2012, after earlier attempts, are yet to be addressed.
According to DAILY GUIDE’s investigations, the case was first reported to the Denu CHRAJ office on November 2, 2006.
The Denu CHRAJ wrote to detective Buabeng and the Aflao Police Station for their comments.
However, the police failed to respond until July 21, 2011 when it issued a report.
The report, which was signed by the Aflao District Commander, confirmed the arrest of Simon Deffour, but the docket was transferred to the Divisional Command in Keta.
The District Commander also informed the Commission that Detective Corporal Buabeng resigned from the Ghana Police Service in 2005 and was living in the United States of America.
Attempts to trace the docket from the Divisional Command in Keta also proved unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, Sgt Vincent Agbenoo, who assisted the D/Cpl Buabeng in arresting Deffour, in a reply to a CHRAJ letter addressed to him in 2008, distanced himself from the incident, saying he only encouraged the two to proceed to the police station peacefully.
CHRAJ’s investigation revealed that Deffour, who resides in Aflao, lodged an assault and death case against him to the Aflao Police Station on February 24, 2003.
Detective Corporal Buabeng, who was directed to hand the case, later advised the victim to take civil action against the culprits.
Some months later, however, the detective again asserted that one Mr Luka had also made a report accusing Deffour of encroaching on his land.
Deffour then advised the detective not to get involved in the case since he (detective) claimed it required a civil action.
On July 14, 2003 at about 5:00pm, Buabeng, in the presence of some witnesses, pounced on Deffour without provocation, dragged him to the police station and subjected him to severe beatings.
Despite the bloody eyes of the victim and plea to be allowed to visit the hospital, the detective locked him up in a cell until he was granted bail the next day.
He then visited the hospital where a doctor drove him to the police station to request a medical form from detective Buabeng.
The victim was then transferred to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra due to the severe damage to the left eye.
A directive by the Aflao Police to Buabeng to pay for the medical costs was ignored.
CHRAJ also identified a case of collusion between detective Buabeng and the officer assigned to deal with the matter at the Keta Divisional Police Command.

GM Foods Criticism, Good For Implementation

A Biochemist and Molecular Biologist, Dr. Yaa Difie Osei have emphasized that critics and criticisms against genetically modified foods is significant in ensuring that its implementation in Ghana and globally is safe and smooth.

She noted that all the criticisms by anti-GM organizations and the general public is good because it will challenge experts like herself to ensure that absolute due diligence is done at all times to ensure that foods produced through the use of modern biotechnology are safe for the masses and generations unborn.

More so, it will help governments, regional blocks and international organizations to ensure adequate education, resources, capacity building and establishment of institutions to enlighten the public more and strictly regulate experts and the use of such technology worldwide.

Dr. Difie Osei made the observation in Ho recently, at a day’s sensitization workshop for farmers, farmer-based organizations and staff of Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) from eight municipalities and districts of the Volta Region.

It was organised by the Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology in Africa (OFAB) under the auspices of the African Agricultural Technology Foundation and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the Planning Committee of OFAB, Ghana.

She said “the fears being expressed by anti-GM groups are normal and for me it is necessary…it is rather challenging us to ensure that the right thing is done, more tests are done and every requirement satisfied..It is strengthening implementing agencies to ensure that we are all safe. That is good.”

Dr. Osei counseled the public not to lose sight of the fact genetic engineering is just like any other technology which could be a blessing or potentially high risked, but more importantly,   the ability to tap into its positive sides under strict security regimes to provide the needs of humanity surmounts all skepticisms.

She also cited that “such criticisms and skepticisms by the public is one reason for workshops like this, so the public can compare the facts and make informed and positive decisions about GM and Agricultural Biotechnology for the benefit all.”

In the case of Ghana, she disclosed that a lot of preparations is going on behind the scenes to ensure that Ghana is well positioned benefit from modern biotechnology and genetic modification to ensure food security and increased exportation for foreign exchange.

So far preparations made include the passing of the Bio-Safety Act, (Act 831) of 2011, other institutional and legal framework, human capacity development, goodwill among practicing partners and cooperation of required Ministries, Departments and Agencies. This Dr. Difie described as encouraging.

Dr Difie-Osei announced that the Crop Research Institute and Savanna Agricultural Research Institute of CSIR have begun studies into nitrogen efficient rice and Bt cotton just like other similar projects undertaken in Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Kenya and South Africa where GM foods are already in use and others being consumed.

She was optimistic that should Ghana succeed in embracing biotechnology, the targets set in the Millennium Development Goals including eradicating extreme hunger, poverty and disease, reducing child mortality and improving maternal health could be achieved sooner than anticipated.

Dr. Margaret Ottah Atikpo, a member of the OFAB, Ghana Board and personnel of the CSIR-Crop and Animal Research Division said the GM technology is the way-forward in the face of dwindling arable land sizes.

According to her, the benefits of the technology include improved stock, higher yields, reduced farm costs, drought-resistant seeds, higher profits and nutritional properties and almost negligible post-harvest losses and increased shelf-life.

Mr. John Tsrakasu, the Regional Director of MOFA counseled experts in favour of biotechnology not to be defensive, but be open-minded about the intricacies of the technology saying “Let us embrace technologies but challenge ourselves about the negative technicalities that will emerge.”

He added that developing countries, like Ghana and its colleagues on the African continent should learn from past examples and make sure that all requirements, doubts and challenges are taken care of before signing onto such technologies to save the people and generations yet unborn.

Togbe Kotoku XI, Paramount Chief of Kpenoe Traditional Area who Chaired the occasion since science and technology is the vehicle of development in the 21st Century scientists should partner traditional to coin matching words for scientific terminologies for easy understanding.

They should also collaborate with them in finding solutions to complex problems in the grassroots since it is the base for food production and other natural resources.

TRULY TRUE!!! Don't Get Your Heart Broken!!

The first part of this poem is the original written by Lora Words, a poet; i have never met her though?  I felt it was too biased and so i balanced it with my version in the second part of the poem...Check it out....the spoken word!!! Lora Ur piece was great though....

TRULY TRUE

Thought there was a little some difference.
Instead all I saw was a great likeliness
It came to mind like a mirage
then in a flash, once again
I saw I was game

The numerous male figures
I encountered on a romantic platform
Were all but of the same mighty form!!
They left me lone
And promised they were all alone,
Independent in this act,
Really not dependent on their species.
I believed and again, another,
I gave my heart to

He came as sweetly as could be
He asked whether I wanted 'to be'
I screamed YES!! And smiled my heart out
In a matter of seconds,
Our sweet love run out
And again the same sad words
Alone, I was left again,
This young lady Lora Words

Really,
Is there none different among the same species?
Not even one?
I thought it was a cliché
*nodding my head*
Never would I let go my heart
To a member of the same 'wicked' species

Not anymore...

TRULY TRUE

Though u saw a great likeness
Actually there is a great difference
You might think it’s a mirage
A multiple flash over and over again
Yes you saw, but not the same

The wrong numerous figures
You encounter on a wrong platform
Were all but in bad form
They left you lone
And lied there were alone
Independent in that act
Truly, the bad of the good species
Yet you believed and again another,
You displaced you heart to.

He came as deceitful as could be
He asked whether you wanted hell
You screamed YES!! And sold your heart out
In a matter seconds
His sweet lust run out
And again the same sad words
Alone, you were left again, but worst
This young Lady Lora Words

Really,
There is much different among the same species
Many more than one
*smiling in awe*
You can let go your heart
But to the right one of the same species
You always can........

Biography of Worship....BE a worshiper!!!!!!!!

This was the idea of God,
Lets create man in our own image,
He told his fellow comrades,
 The reason being for worship,
Then came man, for the sake of worship,
Disobedience set in to break the relationship,
Yet, God gave man another chance to worship.

By an ark God saved man,
From what would wipe an entire generation,
By the strike of a rainbow,
He promised water won’t destroy our tomorrow,
Man returned this favour
With effort to reach God’s dwelling.
Again, for the sake of worship,
He treated man with leniency,

He asked a man to live his country,
People and family.
“I will bless you” He told him, All for worship
At unproductive age, He gave him a son,
With this son, He measured his worship.
For once, God was satisfied with man’s worship.
His son’s son tussled with an angel
To have his share in Gods worship.

In another land God’s people suffered,
Because they forget to worship,
 As they realize to worship,
Their own was exiled because he murdered,
Years on, their worship caught up with God.
By the exiled man, God miraculously delivered them,
All for his worship.

The time of kings brought psalms,
Proverbs and love scripts.
One of whom danced till he was naked.
Crazy, you may think, but he did this in the name of worship.

The son of man came with the final and best way of worship.
He told us a time is coming, and has now come, when true believers
Won’t worship God by burnt offerings which went straight up,
Nor by melodious psalm and dance that could draw the hosts of heaven,
Nor by the blood of any other man.

But in the HEART of man,
Aha! Are you amazed?
Let me tell you why?
God has come to live in our HEARTS?

Just as then, today is the same
And tomorrow won’t be different,
Yes! In our hearts………. We will………..
And shall worship the almighty…………
Till the day of his coming
And even in the new
JERUSALEM!!!
